A secure server authenticates users and supports data encryption/decryption to protect messages and transactions on the Internet from third party tampering. The Secure Server area allows installation of a digital certificate that will verify that the user sending the message is who he/she claims to be, and to provide the receiver with the means to encode a reply.

To ensure that a digital certificate is, indeed, what you need, the Secure Server area permits installation of atest certificate.The trial period enabled by this test certificate will enable you to send encrypted messages before actually investing in your own digital certificate from a certificate authority (CA).If you choose not to purchase your own certificate, please feel free to use our shared certificate.

NOTE: It is not necessary to purchase a digital certificate from a CA - cedant.com can generate a fully-working certificate for you.However, with our shared digital certificate, we have found that a security alert will pop up in Internet Explorer indicating that the connection is a secure connection.Although, this alert is just a confirmation, it has been our experience that users do not fully read pop-ups and thus may interpret the alert as detrimental to their transaction.If you acquire your own digital certificate, this alert will not appear. Therefore, although the decision to purchase your own digital certificate is up to you, be aware that the only major difference is the alert.
