How do I register new U.S. domain names?
Cedant Hosting has a partnership with Name4Ever to register domain names for
our clients. Names4Ever is accredited by ICANN as an official registrar of the
.com, .net, .org, .biz, and .info, TLD's.
For more information about this, please see our Domain Registration page.
To use this service, indicate on your order form that you would like us to register your new domain name where requested.
The domain name registration will be submitted to Names4Ever upon receipt of payment for the registration fees.
If you do not prefer to do this, you can also register your domain name with Network Solutions or other registrar
using our Domain Name Server information:
Name Server
IP Address
Primary
ns.cedant.com
216.55.153.2
Secondary
ns2.cedant.com
66.226.78.2
On your order form indicate that you will handle the domain name registration.
When my domain name is registered, who owns the domain name?
You do. When we register your domain name with Names4Ever, we will put you as the administrative and billing contact. Whenever you want to make modifications with your domain name, the administrative or billing contact is always contacted first. Since
Cedant Web Hosting registers your domain name, we will remain as the technical contact. If for any reason you do not want us
as the technical contact, you will need to register or transfer your account with your registrar.
Do I have to pay the domain name registration fee?
Yes. Anyone who registers a new domain name with a .com, .net, or .org extension (regardless of what web hosting provider one goes through) MUST pay this fee.
How long does it take for the world to access my domain name?
We, of course, will setup your domain name on our servers within 24 hours. While setting up your site, we will also work to register or transfer your domain name. It takes 24-48 hours to complete new domain name registrations once processed. However after
this time period, it truly depends on ALL networks and ISPs of the world to update their servers and lookup your new domain name. Some popular dial-up ISPs (i.e. Earthlink, Slip.Net, Sprynet, Grid.Net) take less than 6 hours to update their servers, while
others will take more than 3 days. So if you are still using a dial-up connection to the Internet, make sure you have a reliable ISP that promply updates its DNS servers, so you can access yourdomain.com right away.
Who is InterNIC?
The InterNIC is an independent organization who, until 4 years ago,
was the only domain name registar. As a result, 90% of all domain names were registered through them.
Many other companies can now register domain names. These include Register.com,
Bulkregister.com, Domain Bank, Domain Direct, etc.
